The bill was railroaded through the House in a hurry, and will likely pass through the Senate like a whirlwind. Please act now to decelerate its progress so that it can be examined in the light of reason and given the rejection it so richly deserves I will use the facilities of http://www.congress.org to send emails to my Senators, urging them to vote against the GIVE Act. I will include a link to this blog post in that email.
Thanks to Faultline USA. for alerting me to this vital issue.

Ali Ben Ali Mohammad Abdul,
Is your objection that people of USA contribute to the society of USA?
Are you objecting to people working for the greater good of USA society instead of working only for themselves?

Ben, I studied this law (the HR version) yesterday for several hours, intending to write a post about it. Among the alarming things besides the obvious, is the racist way which this bill specifies benefit to latinos and blacks through specific latino and black educational institutions.
Furthermore, the language of the mission of the bill, something like 'to meet unmet human, social, educational need' is liberal-speak rife with liberal philosophical would-be solutions to get usher in nirvana.
Of course, this term 'unmet human need' really doesn't mean unmet human need, rather means unmet liberal government role, for if it really intends to meet unmet human needs, it would start by closing their abortion clinics, teaching responsibility and morality apart from this sick liberal religion.
Glad to see that you also were concerned about this bill's slick, silent, rapid move through the House.
This type of crap is not going to last long, they are wayyy over-playing their hand. And payback is gonna be a bear.
I have absolutely no objection to volunteerism; I participate in it myself. What I object to is the element of coercion. Anything mandated by law ain't voluntary. Its another step deeper into the Socialist septic tank.
I further object to the overt racism and pork included in the act. It is obviously intended to flush large quantities of tax revenue into the greedy paws of ACORN, La Rasa & LULAC.
